Audiology

Audiology is part of the field of ear, nose and throat medicine. The term is made up of the Latin term for "hearing" (Latin audire) and the Greek word for "customer" (Greek logos). Accordingly, audiology can be described as the science of hearing. It deals with the function and diseases of the human auditory system.

The aim is to clarify the process of hearing, to research diseases of the auditory organs and to develop preventive measures and treatments. As the sense of balance is part of the inner ear, this also falls within the scope of audiology.
